DrugBank Online Home Page ReDesign

Web Design

Background

DrugBank is an intelligent and comprehensive drug knowledge platform. With the help of artificial intelligence, their expert team authors, verifies, and structures all of the latest biomedical information so that it can be used to its fullest potential. DrugBank’s online platform enables its users to search drug information for free and gets over 1 million visits per month.

Challenge

This website had not seen a design or messaging update in several years while attention was focused on DrugBank’s commercial web property that receives far less traffic. The online platform’s messaging was long, unclear, didn’t match current brand standards, and most importantly, wasn’t getting potential customers to where they needed to go. Because of this and the high volume of eyes on the online platform, we decided to update the home page to showcase our commercial offerings, while still allowing easy access to the search functionality used by most visitors. This project had several stakeholders from different teams with multiple business goals needing to be addressed in what content made it into the redesign. I contributed to the project as the design lead, working closely with our creative team including our copywriter, Teira Stauth, product designer, Janet King, and creative director, Chontelle Bushore, as well as the development team, to bring the page to life.

Solution

Below is an early wireframe (a bare-bones sketch) of the website where I walk through the decisions that were made to optimize the home page.
